My issues land in spam

The strongest step is sending from your own verified domain, then sending only to people who want your issues. Go through this checklist item by item.

Checklist

  1. 1. Send a test first. In the Review step, press “Send Test Email” to your Gmail and Outlook addresses and see where it lands.
  2. 2. Check the issue with the “Spam Score Checker”. In the “Review & Send” step it scores the subject, the content and the links out of 100 and suggests fixes. It is advice, not a promise of reaching the inbox, and it never blocks a send.
  3. 3. Send from your own domain. On Growth and up, register a domain in Domain & Email (Opens in the Mujaz app) and add the DKIM records. See Send from your own domain.
  4. 4. Make sure the records verify. On Cloudflare, the three CNAME records must be “DNS only” (grey cloud). See When a DNS record doesn't verify.
  5. 5. Change “From Email” after verifying to an address on exactly that domain, then press “Save Sender Settings”. Until then, issues still go out from the Mujaz address.
  6. 6. Send to people who engage. In the Audience tab use the “Engagement Filter”; the recommended option is active in the last 90 days or new.
  7. 7. Clean your list. Remove readers who never open. Mujaz only allows lists of people who asked to hear from you.
  8. 8. Use full direct links. Link shorteners hold a send for review.
  9. 9. Add your postal address in “Postal address” (Growth and up). It's printed in every newsletter footer, and anti-spam laws ask for it.

If you send from Yahoo, iCloud or AOL

These providers forbid other services from sending as their addresses. So your issues go out under your name from the Mujaz address, and replies come to your address. This is on purpose: those providers would send the issue to spam or reject it otherwise. See Verify your sender email.

Common questions

I'm not on Growth. What can I do?

Most of the list is open to you: tests, the Spam Score Checker, the engagement filter, cleaning your list and direct links. Your own domain and the postal address are Growth and up.

My domain is verified but issues still come from the Mujaz address. Why?

Change “From Email” to an address on your domain, then press “Save Sender Settings”.

  • How to stay out of spam

Send only to people who asked for your newsletter, use full direct links, send to engaged readers, check the “Spam Score Checker” tips before sending, and send from your verified domain if you can. Mujaz handles the rest: an unsubscribe link in every email, no more mail to bounced or complaining addresses, and link checks before sending.

  • Send from your own domain

Register a domain such as newsletter.yoursite.com under “Custom Domain”, add the three DKIM records at your DNS provider, then change “From Email” to an address on that domain. Available from the Growth plan.

  • When a DNS record doesn't verify

The three most common causes: a Cloudflare record that is proxied (orange cloud), a name with the domain typed twice, or a record that hasn't shown up yet. The Domain & Email tab shows each record's state and the reason it fails.

  • Send from your personal address

Type your address in “From Email”, press “Save Sender Settings”, then confirm it from the email that arrives there. No domain needed. Available from the Growth plan.
