Import subscribers from a CSV file

In Subscribers press Import CSV and pick a CSV file up to 10 MB with an email column. Mujaz detects the columns by itself, and importing never sends anything.

Last updated:

Before you import

  • The file must be CSV. Excel files (.xlsx) aren't accepted — in Excel use Save As → CSV.
  • Up to 10 MB and 50,000 rows per file.
  • One column for the email, with a header such as email, Email Address, البريد الإلكتروني or ايميل.
  • Optional columns: first name and last name or full name, tags (split by ; or ,), language (ar or en), and status.

Steps

  1. 1. Open Subscribers (Opens in the Mujaz app) and press Import CSV.
  2. 2. Pick the file. There is no column-mapping screen — Mujaz reads the headers.
  3. 3. Wait for the summary: imported, already existed, skipped and errors. Press View skipped to see each skipped row and why.

Import CSV adds people to All Subscribers. To import straight into a new list, open Subscriber Lists (Opens in the Mujaz app) → Create List → type the name → the Upload CSV tab.

What is skipped on purpose

  • Rows marked unsubscribed, bounced, complained or cleaned in the file, so opt-outs never come back.
  • Invalid emails, and domains that can't receive mail.
  • Anyone who unsubscribed, complained or bounced in your workspace before — even if you deleted them. They are never re-added.

People who already exist are added to the list, but the import doesn't update their name or tags.

Messages you may see

  • “No email column found…”: rename the email column to email and try again.
  • “No valid subscribers found in import data”: every row was skipped. Open View skipped for the reasons.
  • “New accounts can import up to 1,000 contacts during their first week…”: wait until day 7, or contact support to verify your account.
  • “You have reached your plan's subscriber limit”: your plan is full.

Common questions

Can I import an Excel file directly?

No. Open it in Excel, save it as CSV, then import it.

I imported someone who had unsubscribed and they weren't added

People who unsubscribed, complained or bounced in your workspace are never re-added by an import. They can subscribe again themselves on your public page or sign-up form.

Does importing update existing subscribers' names?

No. It only adds them to the list; their name and tags stay as they are.

  • Move from Substack

Export your subscriber list from Substack as a CSV file, then import it in Mujaz under Subscribers → Import CSV. Only subscribers move; your past issues stay on Substack.

  • Move from another platform

From beehiiv, Mailchimp, Hodhod, Kitabh or a Google Sheet: export your subscribers as a CSV file with an email column, then import it under Subscribers → Import CSV. Only subscribers move, not past issues.

  • Subscriber lists

A list is a group of subscribers you send a particular issue to. Create one on the Subscriber Lists tab, add people by hand or with a CSV, then choose it in the editor under “Audience Segment”.

  • Subscriber limits on each plan

Each plan has a maximum number of subscribers, from 500 on Free to 50,000 on Scale. Active and Pending subscribers count. At the limit, manual adds and imports stop, but sign-ups from your page and forms are never refused, and sending isn't blocked.
