Move from Substack

Export your subscriber list from Substack as a CSV file, then import it in Mujaz under Subscribers → Import CSV. Only subscribers move; your past issues stay on Substack.

What moves: email addresses, with names, tags and language when they are columns in the file. What doesn't: past issues and their numbers — they stay on Substack.

  1. 1. In Substack, export your subscriber list as a CSV file.
  2. 2. Make sure the file has an email column. If you open it in Excel, save it as CSV, not .xlsx.
  3. 3. In Mujaz, open Subscribers (Opens in the Mujaz app), press Import CSV and pick the file.
  4. 4. Check the summary, and press View skipped to see what was skipped and why.
  5. 5. Set up your identity before the first issue: name and logo in Brand (Opens in the Mujaz app), fonts and colours in Newsletter Style (Opens in the Mujaz app).
  6. 6. Send yourself a test, then send your first issue from Mujaz.

Common questions

Do my old issues move to Mujaz?

No. The import moves subscribers only; past issues stay on Substack.

Do people who unsubscribed come along?

No. Any row marked unsubscribed, bounced or complained in the file is skipped.

What about readers who pay me on Substack?

Their email is imported like any other subscriber. Their paid subscriptions and payments don't move.

Do imported readers get a welcome email?

No. Importing never sends anything and doesn't start the welcome automation.

  • Import subscribers from a CSV file

In Subscribers press Import CSV and pick a CSV file up to 10 MB with an email column. Mujaz detects the columns by itself, and importing never sends anything.

  • Move from another platform

From beehiiv, Mailchimp, Hodhod, Kitabh or a Google Sheet: export your subscribers as a CSV file with an email column, then import it under Subscribers → Import CSV. Only subscribers move, not past issues.

  • Sender name and address

Readers see your brand name in their inbox, and your issues come from your Mujaz address [email protected] with nothing to set up. From the Growth plan you can change the sender name, address and reply-to on the Domain & Email tab.

  • How to stay out of spam

Send only to people who asked for your newsletter, use full direct links, send to engaged readers, check the “Spam Score Checker” tips before sending, and send from your verified domain if you can. Mujaz handles the rest: an unsubscribe link in every email, no more mail to bounced or complaining addresses, and link checks before sending.
